How Do I Choose a Hair Transplant Physician?
The most important factor in choosing a hair transplant physician is
getting to know the physician himself. It is critical for you to
meet the person who will be doing your hair restoration to see if he or she
"connects" with you. This connection should instill confidence in you,
and you should feel comfortable that this physician can best help you meet your
hair transplant objectives. Do not rely on a marketing person or a sales
representative to describe the hair replacement procedure to you. In our view, a
middleman has no place in an esthetic hair transplantation practice.
Be cautious about the power of advertising and about those who claim
exclusive skills or who use testimonials or claims of
endorsements. These may lead to an inaccurate representation of the
hair transplant physician.
Ask who does the hair restoration procedure and who prepares and implants the
grafts. Is this largely left to technicians with no medical
experience who are taught by other technicians, or is it done by the
hair transplant physician and medically trained registered nurses who are experienced in
the personal and technical side of patient care?
Larger hair replacement sessions with more personnel carry inherent risks of poorer
quality control during the cutting and implanting stages. A
smaller staff directly supervised by the hair transplant physician will maintain a high
level of quality and a more predictable outcome.
